The programmes that make membership pay for itself.

An association of this size can negotiate as one buyer. These are the results — insurance, comp, retirement, fuel and phones at rates a single firm would not get on its own.

Workers' compensation safety group

Lovell Safety Management Co., LLC

The programme most member firms save the most money on, and the one that most often covers the dues by itself.

Member firms can join a construction industry workers' compensation safety group administered by Lovell Safety Management. Participants receive an advance discount on premium, and the group has returned a dividend to its members in each of the past five years.

Eligibility depends on payroll classification and loss history, and the dividend is a record of what the group has paid, not a promise about any future year. The office will tell you honestly whether your firm's experience makes it worth moving.

Group insurance and employee benefits

The Exchange Agency · OneGroup

Health, dental, vision and disability written for construction employers rather than for offices.

Group health, dental, vision and disability plans are available to member organizations, along with the coverages New York State requires of a construction employer.

The association also partners with OneGroup, a Syracuse-headquartered benefits, HR, insurance and risk management firm, for a full employee benefit and risk management offering.

Multiple employer retirement plan

Building Industry Employers of New York State

A pooled retirement plan that keeps a firm compliant while limiting what it has to administer and be responsible for.

BIE of New York State negotiated a group retirement plan for regional construction associations and their member employers. Member firms — including those that already run a plan — can opt into this multiple employer plan.

The point of a pooled plan is that it keeps the employer compliant with New York State requirements while limiting its own fiduciary responsibility and day-to-day operational oversight.

Fleet fuel and vehicles

Sunoco · Momentum Groups VIP Automotive

Per-gallon savings with real controls, plus member pricing on the trucks themselves.

The fleet fuel card programme discounts fuel across thousands of Sunoco locations and gives an owner the tools that actually matter on a fleet — per-driver spending limits and per-vehicle performance data.

The VIP automotive programme offers member-only incentives on commercial vehicles including Chrysler, Jeep, RAM, Dodge and Ford, with side-by-side comparison quotes and an extended powertrain warranty.

Business wireless

AT&T · Verizon

Migrate your business accounts to the association's programme and have them actively managed.

Employers with AT&T or Verizon business accounts can move them onto the association's programme and have them managed on their behalf — phones, tablets and vehicle tracking devices.

The office runs plan comparisons and cost analyses before anything moves, so a firm can see what it would actually save rather than take it on faith.

One association buying for hundreds of firms is not the same as one firm buying.
